Lake Mutanda Resort is a more affordable up-market accommodation than other nearby up-market lodging facilities in the area. Lake Mutanda Resort is only 14 km from Kisoro town. The Resort is located directly on Lake Mutanda in a beautiful setting with on the background the Virunga Volcanoes. You leave your vehicle at the top of the drive and the walk down to the lodge is pretty slippery and steep. It is a cozy and spectacular location with each cabin/tent is situated within 10-15 feet from the lakefront. Apparently the new owners have made improvements compared to how it was originally. Relaxing on the porch with a cold drink is just amazing. The scenery is beautiful. Fishermen over the lake in dug-out canoes passing by, children playing in the surrounding hills and bird watching will make you love this place…. very nice for nature walks. The locals are very welcoming and friendly, although you should ask people before you take a picture!

    Highlights of Lake Mutanda Resort

One of the highlights at the resort is the evening Sundowner’s Cruise – delightful as you watch the sun setting over the Virunga Volcanoes – most enjoyable. Perched on a Lake Mutanda peninsula in the shadow of the Virunga Mountains,

Lake Mutanda Resort offers comfortable accommodation combined with the most beautiful views on planet earth. It is a perfect base for gorilla trackers, lake loungers, volcano hikers, bird lovers as well as those looking for a mystical place in nature.

In a superb location, plonked directly on the lake, this relaxed Dutch-owned resort has luxury tents raised on wooden platforms with lovely porches and polished wooden floorboards. Its within striking distance of gorillas at Nkuringo, Ruhija and Mgahinga National Park.

Mutanda Lake Resort enjoys a stupendous southerly outlook! You could cross continents without finding a panorama to compare with the view across these peaceful, island-studded waters towards the Virunga Mountains.

Swimming in the lake is one of our favorite things to do and the cozy restaurant is a great place to go warm up with a nice drink. The food is terrific and staff is friendly.

When you arrive at Mutanda Lake Resort it’s like you have entered a different world! The view of the lake with the volcanoes is breathtaking and the hospitality at the resort was second to none.

The Resort can be accessed by a flight in to Kisoro Airstrip from Entebbe, this is more convenient to visitors that can not endure a 10 hours road transfer. Guests ready to track both Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga and Bwindi Forests National Park can stay here for the best and comfortable accommodation. From here, guests can drive in to Rwanda for yet a new discovery especially to the nearest Volcanoes National Park known for Gorilla trekking in Rwanda.
